Maple Plain’s Diamond Devils are on their eighth trip to the amateur baseball state tournament.
The tournament is being held at St. Cloud’s Putz and Faber Fields. Games began Aug. 17 and will be continue to be played on weekends through Labor Day. The Devils have a record of 16-14, which includes regular season and regions play as well as one state game.
The Devils won their first game at state Aug. 18 against Bertha with a score of 3-2. Adam Gregg threw 14 strikeouts to help earn the win. The men are next scheduled to play Cannon Falls Aug. 26 at 11 a.m.
Maple Plain made it to first made it to the state tournament in 1986 and the team returned in 1987, 1988, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008 and again now in 2012. In 1988 the men earned second place at the tournament.
The team is managed by John Timpe and its members include Thomas Fisk, Lee Gregg, Adam Gregg, Aaron Jerde, Ryan Dwyer, Rich Rasmussen, Paul Kunz, Kevin Johnson, Barry McCabe, Ryan Jakubov, Darron Culbert, Adam Jacobsen, Billy Soule, Ben Smith, Gary McPherson, Luke Hagen, Craig Hawkinson, TJ Aalid, Jeff Pitzenberger, Mike Rippberger and Chad Edworthy. Kyle Messner, Jake Gleason and Cole Hansen are draftees and Cal Rippberger is the bat boy.
