INCREDIBLE FESTIVAL – The 34th Annual Our Lady of the Lake Incredible Festival is scheduled to take place on Sept. 7-9 at Our Lady of the Lake in Mound. The festival will include a carnival, free entertainment, a silent auction, a 5 kilometer race, a $6,800 raffle, a Texas hold ‘em tournament, food and more. PAINT IT GREEN – The Paint It Green: Full Circle Saturday program will happen Sept. 15, 11 a.m. to noon at Westonka Library. Registration required, limit 30. For children kindergarten through grade 6. Turn your school locker or refrigerator into art! Use discarded CDs, bottle caps, magnet strips, fun photos, beads or other objects to create a magnetic expression of who you are. Materials provided. Sept. 18
BULBS, GARLIC, FALL PLANTING – Fall is the time to plant flowering bulbs and garlic. Timing is critical to some of these plantings in order to establish root systems and benefit from the winter cold treatment. Join us to learn which bulb and garlic varieties can be planted in the fall to ensure success next spring. Speakers Dr. Carl Rosen from the University of Minnesota and Edie Godfrey from the Daffodil Society will share their secrets of success with planting many varieties of bulbs and garlic. RUMMAGE SALE – A rummage sale will be happening at the St. John’s Lutheran Church on Sept. 26-27, located at 2451 Fairview
Lane in Mound. This will be the church’s 28th annual rummage sale. Presale ($3 charge) is Sept. 26, from 2 to 4 p.m., and the open sale is from 4 to 8 p.m. The sale continues Thursday, Sept 27 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Proceeds support the church, community outreach and global missions. WESTONKA TRAVELING BASKETBALL SIGN UP – Westonka’s Youth Traveling Basketball Association (WYBBA) invites incoming third through sixth grade boys and girls to register for the 2012-2013 basketball season. Teams are formed by gender, grade level, ability and previous experience, and uniforms are provided by the association. Registration forms are available online through Community Education at www.westonkace.org On-line registration is encouraged.
In-person registration will be held at Mound Westonka High School on Saturday Sept. 15 from 9 a.m. through 11 a.m. and on Wednesday Sept. 19 from 6 p.m. through 8 p.m. The Registration deadline is Sept. 29. Two preseason skills clinics are open to all interested students at the Westonka High School on Saturday Sept. 15 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and Wednesday Sept. 19 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The clinics are free and no commitment necessary. CREATIVE WRITING SAMPLER – First Pages for Adults: Creative Writing Sampler?Saturday will happen on Sept. 29, from 10:30 a.m. to noon at Westonka Library. Come and sample poetry, fiction and creative nonfiction by exploring craft techniques common to all three. You’ll also have a chance to experiment with each through creative writing exercises. LAWN CARE SUCCESS – The best time of year to tend to the lawn to ensure its success for the following year is October. Speaker Sam Bauer, a University of Minnesota extension educator in turf management, will talk about turf grass species selection, soil types and preparation, fertility and watering practices, and pest management. This session focuses on the creation of sustainable lawns that require less fertilizer and water, along with reducing the use of pesticides. Go to the Otten Bros. Westonka Writing Group – If you are a budding writer or would like support in getting started writing, you are invited to join the Westonka Writing Group and share your writing and your thoughts on writing and writers. WEIGHT WATCHERS – Weight Watchers meets weekly in Mound at the Mt. Olive Church on the corner of Bartlett and Wilshire. Our meetings begin every Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. with the doors opening at 4 for weighing in and registering. We always welcome new members!! GRIEF COALITION – The West Suburban Grief Coalition will hold its weekly meetings from March 1 through May 31 at Oak Knoll Lutheran Church, 600 County Rd

social time, at 4:30 p.m. there is a speaker and at 5 p.m. individual

FAMILY NIGHT – Family night at Minnetrista Baptist Church, located at 8325 Kennedy Memorial Drive in St. Bonifacius — Wednesdays from 6 to 7:45 p.m. At 6 p.m. we serve supper for $2 a person. At 6:45 p.m. we have all of our programs. Preschool class (3-5 year olds) – bible lessons for preschoolers. Class program for ages 6-12 years. There are two bible study series for adults. 1. Too busy not to pray, by Bill Hybel. 2. Book of Revelation study. There are also youth activities and bible study. At 7:45 p.m. we have choir practice. Everyone is welcome. WOMENS HI-LO GOLF LEAGUE – The Lakeview golf course in Orono is accepting new members into its Thursday morning womens Hi-lo golf league. SNOMADS SNOWMOBILE CLUB – The Maple Plain Snowmads snowmobile club meets at 8 p.m. every second Wednesday of the month at Monies, located on the corner of Highway 12 and Baker Park Road in Maple Plain. Join the club for group rides, fun events and opening new trails as well as re-opening old trails to connect with Long Lake, Lake Minnetonka, Delano, Loretto, Hamel and beyond.
