Dog Days Westonka brought local pet owners to the Mound Greenway on Saturday, Aug. 18, with over 500 people participating and $1,200 in donations to the WeCAN Pet Assistance Fund.

Laura Cogswell, who helped plan Dog Days Westonka with Celebrate Greater Mound, said a local city project will also be selected for donations from the event.

Some of the donations for the pet assistance fund came from the ‘Smooch Your Pooch’ photo booth, created by volunteer Molly Emery, and the Maund Entertainment face painter, Lisa Jensen, at this year’s Dog Days.

The Westonka Food Shelf also received a truckload of pet food donations from the attendees during Dog Days Westonka.

Cogswell also reminded people that the pet food goes quickly, so people should help out with future donations whenever possible.

Cogswell said she thanks everyone for donations, and told people to mark their calendars for Aug. 17, 2013 — next year’s Dog Days Westonka.

The Dog Days Westonka Cutest Puppy Contest winner, Running Bear, is handed the winnings, a $50 gift certificate to Pet Express. The owner of Running Bear is Ryan Batcheller.
