RUMMAGE AND NEW CLOTHING SALE – The Christ Lutheran Church, located at 5084 Main Street in Maple Plain, is having a rummage and some new clothing sale on Sept. 13-15. The hours will be Thursday (Sept. 13), from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday (Sept. 14) from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday (Sept. 15) from 8 a.m. to noon.

BULBS, GARLIC, FALL PLANTING – *CHANGED FROM SEPT. 18* Fall is the time to plant flowering bulbs and garlic. Timing is critical to some of these plantings in order to establish root systems and benefit from the winter cold treatment. Join us to learn which bulb and garlic varieties can be planted in the fall to ensure success next spring. Speakers Dr. Carl Rosen from the University of Minnesota and Edie Godfrey from the Daffodil Society will share their secrets of success with planting many varieties of bulbs and garlic. PAINT IT GREEN – The Paint It Green: Full Circle Saturday program will happen Sept. 15, 11 a.m. to noon at Westonka Library. Registration required, limit 30. Use discarded CDs, bottle caps, magnet strips, fun photos, beads or other objects to create a magnetic expression of who you are. Materials provided. SQUARE DANCE SATURDAY – Take the fast track and blast into modern American square dancing on Saturday, Sept. 15, with the Westonka Whirlers. In just one Saturday at Grandview Middle School cafeteria, you will easily learn the basic calls, all the while enjoying fun, fellowship, and good food. Square dancing can help improve your cardiovascular system, burn calories, build healthy bones and much more. Potluck lunch and dinner are part of the fun. CAMPFIRE COOKOUT – Bring your friends and family for a unique dining experience. The entire meal, from appetizers to desserts, will be prepared outside over the campfire. BIOSCIENCE – Monday, Sept. 17, from 1-4 p.m., at Gale Woods Farm, Minnetrista. Join Gale Woods’ farmers in exploring the various biological concepts and ecosystems of the farm. High school and college biology concepts will be covered. Fall curriculum will cover soil, composting, water quality and animal breeding. Spring curriculum will cover plant and animal genetics. PRAIRIE SEED COLLECTION – Help bring back the prairie. Join other volunteers on Tuesday, Sept. 18, from 10:30 a.m.- 1:30 p.m., at Baker Park Reserve, Medina, and assist wildlife staff in collecting hundreds of pounds of wildflower seed for prairie restoration and enhancement projects. Training and collection bags are provided.
Volunteers must be 16 years or older, or be accompanied by a responsible adult. Groups are welcome but must have at least one adult per eight youths. This program is for ages 12+. A permission form is needed for participation by minors. To register, call 763-559-6706.

TRIP TO TURTLE LAKE CASINO – The Gillespie Center is hosting a trip to Turtle Lake Casono Wednesday, Sept. 19 at 7:50 a.m. Sign up ahead time at the center’s front desk, there is limited reserved seating. The cost is $5.
COUNTRY JAM CONCERT – The Gillespie Center is hosting Wed. Sept. 19 from noon-2 p.m.: Classic Country Jam concert from noon to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 19. Musicians will play and jam live music, and everyone is welcome. If you would like to eat lunch, sign up by Monday, Sept. 17. Lunch is only $5.

CELEBRATION DINNER – Join us for an evening of fine food, a cooking lesson, good music and fun as Gale Woods Chef Mary Jane Miller hosts a progressive dinner on the farm. On Saturday, Sept. 22, from 5-8 p.m., at Gale Woods Farm, Minnetrista, you will dine your way from the wood-fired pizza oven in the herb garden, through the pastures on a wagon tour, appetizers and music at the chicken coop, and then settle into the harvest kitchen set with long tables filled with the farm’s bounty. Mary Jane will demonstrate how your dinner was cooked so you can recreate this night at home. An array of desserts to nibble and coffee to sip by a bonfire on the patio ends the memorable meal. CIVIL WAR PROGRAM – The Gillespie Center is hosting the program “The Turning Point in the Civil War ‘Gettysburg,’” Presented by Dan Hartman, on Wednesday, Sept. 26 at 10:40 a.m. The program is free, and participants will learn about the events of the historic three-day Battle of Gettysburg from both the Northern and Southern point of view.

RUMMAGE SALE – A rummage sale will be happening at the St. John’s Lutheran Church on Sept. 26-27, located at 2451 Fairview
Lane in Mound. This will be the church’s 28th annual rummage sale. Presale ($3 charge) is Sept. 26, from 2 to 4 p.m., and the open sale is from 4 to 8 p.m. The sale continues Thursday, Sept 27 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Proceeds support the church, community outreach and global missions. WESTONKA TRAVELING BASKETBALL SIGN UP – Westonka’s Youth Traveling Basketball Association (WYBBA) invites incoming third through sixth grade boys and girls to register for the 2012-2013 basketball season. Teams are formed by gender, grade level, ability and previous experience, and uniforms are provided by the association. FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS – Bring your lights, luminaries and flashlights, and join us for the Festival of Lights on Friday, Sept. 28 through Sunday, Sept. 30 at the Baker Park Reserve in Medina. Check in Friday evening and decorate your site. Prizes awarded for best site decorations. Campsite judging begins at dusk on Saturday. ORONO KIDS STUFF SALE – Clothes, toys, equipment, sizes infant to teen and maternity will be on sale Saturday, Sept. 29 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be a $1 Fee to Shop from 9 to 10 a.m., and a half price sale from 1 to 2 p.m. The sale will be at Schumann Elementary School, lcated at 765 Old Crystal Bay Road in Long Lake.
HARVEST HOEDOWN – Join us for an evening of fiddling, foot-stomping fun, and farm-fresh food. On Saturday, Sept. 29 from 5 to 8:30 p.m. at the Gale Woods Farm, Minnetrista, you will enjoy string-band music and learn the basics of easy and fun family folk dancing. LAWN CARE SUCCESS – The best time of year to tend to the lawn to ensure its success for the following year is October. Speaker Sam Bauer, a University of Minnesota extension educator in turf management, will talk about turf grass species selection, soil types and preparation, fertility and watering practices, and pest management. This session focuses on the creation of sustainable lawns that require less fertilizer and water, along with reducing the use of pesticides. Go to the Otten Bros. FAMILY NIGHT – Family night at Minnetrista Baptist Church, located at 8325 Kennedy Memorial Drive in St. Bonifacius — Wednesdays from 6 to 7:45 p.m. At 6 p.m. we serve supper for $2 a person.
