The Give 60 for 60 initiative is looking to honor young lacrosse players who share the same leadership and charitable attributes as Jake Anderson embodied. Jake died in December at the age of 19. (Submitted photo)
Jake Anderson was the first Orono lacrosse player to be given the team’s leadership award. Instead of retiring his No. 60 jersey after he died, the Orono team decided to make it the highest honor to wear Jake’s number. Only the person who is given the leadership award will be allowed to wear the No. 60 jersey. (Submitted photo)

Though still a teenager when he died in December, Jake Anderson has left behind a legacy that is stronger than that of many who live a longer life.
Two months ago on Sunday, Dec. 15 came the unexpected news that Jake, 19 and a freshman at the University of Minnesota, was found dead in Minneapolis. As family and friends gathered to mourn the young man, efforts emerged that will keep his memory alive and honor other young people who share the leadership and charitable attributes that Jake embodied.
