Three NSGA teams take first at Legacy Luau Invitational

The North Shore Gymnastics Xcel teams competed at the Legacy Luau Invitational at Fort Snelling on Jan. 30. The Diamond and Platinum teams both took first place.

North Shore Diamond gymnast Abby Ylitalo, (age 14, Plymouth) took first place all-around with a score of 35.850. Ylitalo took home a first place medal for beam (9.450), floor (9.000) and vault (8.750). Teammate Mara McCollor (age 14, Plymouth) placed second all-around with a score of 34.150. Kamryn Friedrich (age 15, Corcoran) took second on beam (9.000), and Abigail Frandson (age 13, Otsego) placed second on vault (8.700) and floor (8.900).

For the Platinum team, in the junior division, Lily Sipprell, (age 12, Minnetrista) took first place all-around with a score of 36.050, she placed second on bars (8.950), second on beam (9.100) and first floor (9.200). Teammate Payton Uelmen (age 11, Minnetrista) placed second all-around, winning vault (9.250) and taking second place on floor (9.100). Jessica Bahr (age 12, Wayzata) took second on vault (9.200).

Greta Ness (age 11, Independence) dominated for the North Shore Gold team, winning the 11-year-old all-around spot (35.450). Ness won vault (8.650) and bars (9.200), and took second on beam (8.850). Gracie Larson (age 11, Delano) tied for second on floor (9.100). For the 12-year-olds, Gianna Arthur (age 12, Watertown) placed second on floor (9.300), and Isabella Bekkala (age 12, Delano) tied for first on bars (9.150).

The North Shore Gymnastics Xcel teams will compete next Feb. 13-14 at the Magic Classic in Orlando, Fla. (Platinum and Diamond teams)

North Shore Gymnastics Association’s Levels 6-10 teams are on a roll with first and second place finishes at the Legacy Luau Invite, Jan. 31- Feb. 1 at Fort Snelling.

A first place trophy went to North Shore’s Level 6 team with their highest team score for the season. Level 6 gymnast, Maya Loven (age 11, Medina) finished the meet in first place with an all-around score of 37.00. Loven also took first place on vault (9.00), first on bars (9.30), first on beam (9.35) and third on floor (9.25). In the 12-year-old division, Katherine Busch (age 12, Plymouth) took third for all-around with a score of 36.075. She also placed third on bars (9.00). In the age 13+ division both Brooke Hunsley (age 13, Albertville) and Samantha Poeschl (age 14, Plymouth) finished in the top three. Hunsley took first place with a score of 35.725. Hunsley also took second on vault (8.975) and second on floor (9.325). Poeschl took third place all-around with a score of 35.60 and first on floor (9.475). Teammate Jordan Janisch (age 13, Medina) placed first on beam (9.275).

North Shore’s Level 7 team not only took home the second place team trophy, but also the top 2 individual all-around scores. First place went to Makena Rasmussen (age 10, Independence) with an all-around score of 36.10. Rasmussen also took first place on beam (9.50) and second on bars (8.9).

Teammate Sydney Donaldson (age 14, Maple Plain) finished right behind with an all-around score of 35.95. Donaldson also took second on floor (9.45) and third on bars (8.625).
