According to WHPS, one driver is dead and another injured following a severe crash on Highway 12. The crash reportedly occurred shortly before 8 a.m. on Feb. 15 in Independence, near County Road 92.

Investigators said that, due to icy road conditions, the driver of a westbound Ford Fusion lost control and slid sideways across the center line. This vehicle was then reportedly struck broadside by an eastbound vehicle.

The driver of the Fusion was killed in the crash, authorities said. The other driver reportedly sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Highway 12 was closed for several hours following the crash, but reopened shortly after noon. This traffic fatality is the second to occur Highway 12 this year, after a Jan. 13 crash in Delano left one driver dead and three others injured.
