For the third time of her career, Zoe Johnson has been named the Liberal Arts Championships Diver of the Year. With her diving performances in one-meter and three-meter competition, she helped Luther capture the team championship for the tenth year in a row. Principia College, Elsah, Ill., hosted the 2016 Liberal Arts Championships Feb. 10-13.
The Norse dominated the 11-team field posting a winning point total of 823.5. Franklin College (IN) was second with 666.5 and the University of Minnesota-Morris finished third with 382.
Individually, Johnson won the one-meter (11 dives) competition with a school record 453.35 points. Her nearest competitor was Mikaela Lengwin of Loras College who captured the silver medal with 415.40 points.
In three-meter (11 dives) competition, Johnson finished second with a school record point total of 423.60. Carissa Fuller of U of M-Morris won the competition with 440.10 points that was a new Principia College pool record.
Johnson will compete in the NCAA III Diving Regional that will be hosted by Grinnell College (IA), Feb. 26-27. This will be the third time she has qualified for the regional meet.
The top two divers from the four NCAA III Regional sites will earn automatic berths to the NCAA III National Championships that will take place Mar. 16-19, in Greensboro, North Carolina. In addition, 16 divers will receive at-large bids.
Johnson, a 2012 graduate of Holy Family Catholic High School, is the daughter of Steve and Chris Johnson of Minnetrista.
