In years past, the Spirit of the Lakes Festival has turned to local artists to design art for the annual festival, to give it fresh visual flair that updates each year. Last year, festival organizers turned to Mound Westonka High School, looking for student submissions for the festival’s logo.
This year, they took that same approach – the work of Katelynn Babb, a senior at Mound Westonka High School, was chosen out of nine artwork entries submitted by students.
The festival will be held July 15 and 16, and Babb’s work will be featured in a variety of ways leading up to and during the event. The Spirit of the Lakes Festival board chose Katelynn’s work for the colorful fun vibrant energy her piece has, which fits well with the festivities of the annual event.
The board was very impressed with all entries that were submitted, however, and choosing a “winner” was a difficult task, as they were all reportedly very high quality. The board partnered with the MWHS art teacher and department chair, Laura Hensley, to help make the decision.
The board expressed their appreciation for Hensley’s willingness to solicit the students for their artwork and work with the board to coordinate the contest.
