Boys track notches best-ever True Team finish

The boys track and field team had their best-ever team finish at the True Team Section meet yesterday. The boys were third out of 11 teams.

Leading the boys were Dylan Smerillo, finishing 2nd in the 100 and 200. His 200 time of 23.33 bested the school record he set earlier this year.

Isaiah Cherrier, Nels Larson and Max Aufderheide had good races in the sprints as well. Michael Milner ran an amazing mile and 2 mile double, running the mile in 4:46.

Eighth-grader Alec VanGelder also broke 5 minutes in the mile. The hurdle duo of Kwin Retterath and Nick Drilling had strong races.

In field events Jordan Clement threw well, and Jacob Bowe, Mason Elliot and Zach Bohn jumped well in the long jump and triple jump. Bailey Jensen placed well in the high jump.

The 4×100 relay team of Smerillo, Cherrier, Jensen and Larson won the meet running a great race with perfect handoffs. The 4×200 of Bowe, Kris Kurthz, Ben McCurry and Zach Bohn finished 5th. The 4×400 team of Jensen, Drilling, Aufderheide and Larson and 4×800 relay team of Mark Whaley, Kade Retterath, Brandon Ung and Tim Kaczanowski were both 5th as well.

The girls track team also competed well at True Team yesterday. They finished 11th, just 4 points behind Holy Family. Top performances were from Lila Finney and Samantha Truesdell in the sprints. Both girls have had a great season. The 4×800 team of Megan Lachenmayer, Katie Priefer, Abby Wharram and Audrey Woychick placed 7th and the 4×400 team of Finney, Truesdell, Amy Howarth and Cassidy Jenkins placed 8th. In the field events Teagan Schmidt and Melanie Musselman placed well in the high jump. Kate Rogers and Quinn Tice both threw well in the shot put and discus.
