Twenty second through fourth grade Orono students completed different challenges that required creative thinking, critical thinking and collaborative problem solving.
The second grade team, “DI Champs!” did the Scientific Challenge and finished tenth out of 11.
The third grade all-girls team placed third with four teams competing. Their biggest success came during the improv central challenge where they had a one point difference with the first place team.
The third/fourth grade team, “The Imaginators,” took second place in the regional tournament, which qualifies them for state competition in April and a chance to attend Global Finals in Knoxville, Tennessee.
All three teams have spent months preparing for the regional tournament under the guidance of parent team managers.
Destination Imagination is an Orono Community Education program open to students in Kindergarten through 12th grade. DI is designed to inspire students to use creativity in working through challenges. Registration for the 2017-18 season for Orono teams will open in late August.
