Gus was born on July 8, 1942 in Minneapolis, MN. He graduated from North High in 1960. After graduating he began working in the grocery business. Throughout the 46 years in the grocery business he started out at Red Owl, then on to Town and Country Foods, and retired from Jubilee Foods December 2007. Gus also served in the Navy from 1963-1967, spending two years in active duty and two years in the reserves.
Gus met Irene in 1967 and they were married in 1969. They had two girls; Julie born in 1970 and Jodi in 1974. Gus loved being outside. He deer hunted each year up in Red Lake Falls. Gus and Irene have enjoyed gardening and spending time at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum. Going out in the boat and spending time at Boy Scout Island was a weekly activity enjoyed by the family. He fished in the warm months and ice fished in the winter. Cross country skiing was also a favorite outdoor winter activity.
Gus will be remembered for his kind and gentle nature and for thinking of others first. Gus had a great sense of humor and always had a smile for everyone. He lived life simply, had a strong faith in God, and lived by the credo “it’s easy to be nice to people.” He will be sorely missed and forever loved.
A memorial mass will be held on Tuesday, March 21 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of the Lake (2385 Commerce Blvd, Mound, MN) with a visitation one hour prior. Interment to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Our Lady of the Lake Church or School.
