Ronald “Ron” Gray

Ronald Joseph Gray, 80, passed away on July 12, 2017 at Methodist Hospital.
Born in Enderlin, ND on August 10, 1936, he lived most recently in Eden Prairie and formerly in Mound.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Gray; mother Hazel (Asselstine); stepfather Augie Olenkamp; former wife Marie (Franks) Thompson; and son Jeff, Lt Cmdr USN.
He leaves behind his devoted wife Jan and companion dog Leo; two daughters Cheryl Moore (Steve) and Paula Mitchell (Anthony); sister Shirley Dacey (John); three grandsons Cy Moore, J.P. and Tanner Mitchell; three stepsons Stephen (Molly), Randy, Chris (Tina); two step grandchildren Josh and Chloe; and many other relatives and friends.
A member of the Mound High School Class of 1955, Ron loved working with his hands. He restored an antique car, a 1942 Chris Craft boat, and a 1940 Allis Chalmers tractor. His jobs included auto body work, delivering oil, snow plowing, construction work (owned a business), and driving a semi-truck (Ron’s version of a “paid tourist”). He was a lifetime member of the 49ers.
After Ron retired he continued to work as a trustee and maintenance man at Prairie Hill Church. He was actively involved in the church puppet ministry, building various sets and painting- you name it, he could do it!
He had many interests, including boating on Lake Minnetonka, riding a motorcycle, having coffee with friends in his garage, going to tractor shows, shopping at Harbor Freight, working in his yard, tinkering with his golf cart “Flip,” and watching John Wayne movies and NASCAR racing.
A celebration of life will take place Saturday, August 19 at 1 p.m. at Prairie Hill Evangelical Free Church, 17200 Valley View Road in Eden Prairie, 952-937-9593. No flowers please.
A thank you to Park Nicollet Hospice Services for their care and concern.
