FOR THE LAKER
Over 375 residents of St. Bonifacius and the surrounding area gathered for the annual National Night Out celebration at Missile Park on Tuesday, Aug. 1. This national event focuses on neighbors uniting against crime. It is held in a social atmosphere in neighborhoods where citizens gather and get to know each other, as well as their local police officers.
Organized by the St. Boni Community Development Group, the St. Boni Lions and the Westonka Area Jaycees, this year’s event included participation from the Minnetrista Public Safety Department, McGruff the Crime Dog, the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Water Patrol and the St. Boni Fire Department.
Scores of area businesses provided food, prizes and giveaways. In addition to thanking all of the participating agencies and businesses for their community support, organizers particularly wanted to thank the many residents who came out, shared a free dinner with their neighbors and participated in a variety of activities aimed at educating everyone on what they can do to keep neighborhoods safe from drugs and crime. Representatives from local service organizations were on hand. Door prizes, along with kids’ games and prizes were also part of the event.
One of the great things the evening provides is an opportunity to get to know local law enforcement personnel in a comfortable, stress-free setting. Children also get the chance to meet the friendly faces of local officers.
“Thank you to everyone who helped make this a great night for all,” St. Boni Lion Kim Sorensen said.
